Mackenson and Vanessa
Massé
were both born in Haiti and
came to America at the age of seven. Life
in a new country was very different and
difficult, especially for their parents.
Struggling to learn English, but with few
resources, their parents settled for low
paying jobs in an effort to provide for
their families. Children coming from Haiti
also experience the hardships of learning
English. Without Creole-speaking teachers,
or books such as Palé NOW, the process
can be difficult and frustrating. This story
is shared by many Haitian families living
in America. Mackenson and Vanessa, through
their experience with friends, family and
others, became aware of a lack of progress
in the Haitian community due to the language
barrier. They’ve made a commitment
through Palé NOW to provide a means
for the Haitian community to break this
barrier and truly experience the American
dream.
